Indonesia Plans To Grow One Billion Trees Annually: Susilo

Talk, as they say, is cheap. And no one has figured out how to replace the millions of animals. This latest statement has more to do with soliciting extra foreign aid. I have never once seen the President keep his word on any other environmental promises.

What tends to happen is, he makes these bold statements which gullible EC etc bureaucrats love to hear as it gives them an excuse to spend their ill-gotten budgets - or to be more precise, taxpayers money. It's just one big scam.

Indonesia Plans To Grow One Billion Trees Annually: Susilo

WEST JAVA, Jan 26 (Bernama) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Tuesday said that his country has planned to plant one billion trees per year, in order to fight forest destruction, as well as an effort to save the planet from climate change.

Currently, the tropical country had already planted hundreds million of trees to cope with its forest loss due to illegal logging and forest destruction, the president said, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

"We have targeted to plant one billion trees annually. Currently, we have planted hundreds million of trees," Yudhoyono said in his speech at the launching of a new toll road here.

Poor implementation of law enforcement has been the major cause of the illegal logging in Indonesia .

The president warned that the archipelago country may lose some of its 17,500 islands should sea level rise further.

"Let's save our forest, fight illegal logging. Let's do all efforts to prevent our planet from getting warmer," he said.
