Controversial coal plant site confirmed
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has confirmed that the site for its controversial coal power plant project in Sandakan is near Suguntor Bay, just a stone’s throw from the Sepilok Orang Hutan Rehabilitation Centre.
SESB managing director Baharin Din told reporters yesterday that any decision to implement the project would be done after a detailed EIA study.
Sabah Environmental Protec-tion Association president Wong Tack has said that the site was also right next to the Lower Kinabatangan Ramsar site, the largest wetlands in Malaysia and urged the plan be abandoned.
